“Shrugh Review” thoughts
I’ve been thinking about the Shrugh feedback & review screens a bit more. There are 2 varieties of these – from the owner’s perspective and from Shrughies’ perspectives. If I can iron out the owner’s perspective first, I think the other will follow!
The basic use case is that the owner of the Shrugh needs to view the Shrugh results – either in progress or complete. Screen 13.html in the demo was a first attempt to show this. Below is another attempt.
Here are the important considerations:
- Visual distinction that a Schrugh is private vs public. The “3 green guys” icon indicates public, “1 guy” would be private.
- Functions to edit, close and delete a Shrugh, also to return to the owner’s home page.
- The actual Shrugh and options. This display will vary by Shrugh type. The example is for a List Shrugh.
- Some visual indicator for rolled-up Shrughie feedback (feedback given by the public if the Shrugh is shared). The stars in the mockup for List type Shrughs convey that. Each Shrugh type will likely have unique feedback visualizations.
- Comments – and here is where some input will help. An entire Shrugh can be commented on (I’ll call these “Shrugh comments”), but it might be desirable to allow comments on the individual choices (I’ll call these “response comments”) (in the case of a List Shrugh) or is it? Might keeping it simple and only allowing Shrugh comments be best? Let me know what you think.
(note the title is wrong in this mockup – it should be “Shrugh Review” or something like that.
Here is a balsamiq Mockup of the screen:
Yes/No
A question with Yes/No options. Shrughies would simply select either Yes or No. I think only Shrugh comments are needed for this type. In addition, the owner can customize the 2 responses if Yes/No is not appropriate. These are edited at the time the Shrugh is created and can not be changed afterwards. An example would be:
Should I bake an apple or blueberry pie?
[ ] Apple
[ ] Blueberry
List
This is the example above. It consists of a question with a pre-created set of choices that the owner created. I think there are 2 rules for list replies – 1 of many choices or several of many choices (like “all choices that apply” to you or “your favorite 2 choices”). This would be selected at creation time (after selection of the Shrugh type). Shrugh comments for sure, but are Response comments needed (as in the Mockup screen above)?
Write-in
This is similar to a list but Shrughies can write in their own choice(s) as well as reply (as per the List rules above). The owner can also add their choices at creation time. This type might make sense to allow the creator of a choice add a comment (but there would only be this one comment per list item, I’ll call this a “choice comment”). Now that I have typed this out, I am thinking that write-in is just a configuration option of List rather than a separate type. Comments?
Pros & Cons
This consists of a question and 2 lists – Pros list and Cons List. In addition to the pros and cons themselves, each has a weight value (keeping it simple, maybe just a weight from 0 to 5) that the owner can assign and allow (optionally?) Shrughies to assign. In this case, Shrughies could comment on the Pros & Cons Shrugh, apply their own weighting to the options and could select whether the pros or cons “wins”.
Similar to Lists and Write-ins, it would be desirable to allow Shrughies to write-in additional pros and cons – this would be very valuable. This might be another reason to make write-in a configuration option at creation time. These write-ins would allow choice comments.
Summary
After writing this and thinking about it, my proposal is to keep it simple. There will be 3 Shrugh types: Yes/No, List, and Pros & Cons. Each type will have Shrugh comments (on the entire Shrugh) and choice comments (but only for the creator of the choice – both owner and Shrughie), response comments will not be supported.
Yes/No will be configurable (Up/Down, Wet/Dry, etc) and will not have individual response comments. The choices can be commented on by the owner when created.
List will support Shrugh comments and choice comments by the owner. If the List has the write-in option enabled, Shrughies can add items to the list and can comment on each item they add.
Pros & Cons will support Shrugh comments and choice comments and weights by the owner. Shrughies can weight pros & cons items. Write-in pros & cons is an option and Shrughies can add choice comments to their write-ins.
I think this list is both simple and consistent! Are there any other Shrugh types that make sense for release 1? I also have SWOT analysis on my list but I think keeping it simple at first is best.
