GeoCaching on the Squanacook River

My sons, our dog Mia and I went GeoCaching for Cache GCGKTB. This cache was a 2 part multi-cache, meaning you first had to find the clue to get the coordinates to the actual cache. We could not find the coordinates at the original site but were successful at the alternative site. It took a little while to find it though!

Once we retrieved the N and W minutes, plugging them in to our Garmin 60CS was easy enough. Unfortunately, the day was very overcast and the Garmin had trouble keeping a good lock on the satellites. We were able to get within 100′ of the location and I used “dead reckoning” based on the mapped coordinates and lay of the land to find it. We spent about 15 minutes before finding the well hidden cache!

Here is a photo of the original contents of the cache:

And here is what we took (the GeoCaching US Postage Stamp) and left (the red ladybug):

This sounds like the kind of day you need to rely on your geo-sense. ;)

Chris, yes it was! I know this area very well since I fly fish on the Squanacook frequently. Even then, the area was very swampy from all the rain we’ve had.
