A “Reel” Portrait

I’ve just completed the cover design for my book The Reelsmith’s Primer! I am now completely done with everything. I wanted to feature a photo of some of my reels on the back cover so I set up this photo. I call it a “family portrait” since it includes my very first reel (the one sitting on the deerskin pouch) to my most recent (the black and brass one).

I also took this photo of my most recent reel.

This reel is brass and Delrin. The spool is fabricated from Delrin sheet (1/8″) and rod (1″). The pouch is one of my custom-designed deerskin pouches and the tall skinny thing is an antique reel oiler from the late 1800s.

    Hi,
I was looking to build a fly reel and google sent me to your page, the date is 8- 10-09.
You was emailing people the materials they needed to build a reel by hand, and drill press.
    I have a small shop,mini lathe,mini mill,drill press and band saw.
Is there any way you can send me the info.?
I would be happy to buy your book,Im sure it has blueprints to build one.
The only thing that might mess me up would be the holes drilled to make it lighter.
Like everyone said, there is no info.on finding prints or instructions on building one from scratch.
I will pay you for the info,I know this takes up your time.I am sorry to bother you with a long email.
I am always trying different things and wanting to learn,I would like you to teach me how to do this.
Thanks for your time.I hope to hear from you soon.

    thanks!
