First 1/2 Day with my new iPhone 3G S

Well, I just had to get the new iPhone 3G S. I’ve been an iPhone fanatic since the original came out 2 years ago. Last year, I upgraded to a 16 GB 3G and loved it. The GPS feature has been great. Well, when I heard that the 3G S has a 3 megapixel camera AND a video camera, along with a real compass, I just had to have one. In addition, the 3G S is supposed to be 2X faster than the 3G.

iPhone user? You’ll like this, free AT&T Hotspots!

I got an email from AT&T on Thursday announcing that AT&T is giving US iPhone users (i.e. AT&T subscribers) free access to AT&T’s Wifi Hotspots. Thank-you AT&T! I’ve already used it in Starbucks, a B. Dalton book store, and my local supper market! Here is the directory of Hotspots.

The way it works is quite easy, when you attempt to connect to the Web in a Hotspot (with Wifi enabled of course), an AT&T page asks for your iPhone’s telephone #. A few seconds … Continue Reading

What do you have on your iPhone?

Following up from yesterday’s post on some of my favorite iPhone apps, here is the complete list of what I have on mine as of today. This list is constantly changing as I try new things and abandon apps that are less than useful.

  • AOL Radio – reviewed yesterday BoxOffice – find out what movies are playing and buy tickets
  • eBay Mobile – find, bid and buy stuff on eBay
  • Facebook – reviewed yesterday
  • Google Mobile App – Google desktop for the iPhone
  • NetNewsWire – an RSS reader for iPhone

Some of my favorite iPhone apps

AOLicon.jpgLet me start with the AOL Radio app. This is a little gem and it is free too! Basically, it plays over 200 CBS owned radio stations from across the USA. The song’s title, artist and album artwork are displayed if available. You can browse by Stations, tag Favorites, look at Recent stations or songs and browse local based on your location. The interface is simple and easy to navigate. One of the coolest features is Find – which looks like a little magnifying glass next to the song’s album art. … Continue Reading

iPhone activated

If you read my post yesterday, you know the story. The Apple store had to send me to the AT&T store this morning. My account was completely messed up. The gent at AT&T got things sorted and working in 10 minutes. Thanks Dennis at AT&T in the Burlington Mall!

iPhone 3G ATT Hassles

I got my first iPhone when they were released in July of 2007. The experience was extraordinarily pleasant for a cell phone purchase. I walked in to my local Apple Store at the Burlington Mall, there was no line, bought the phone, and left for home in less than 5 minutes. When I got home, I plugged the iPhone in to my iMac and powered it on. iTunes launched and walked me through a quick and painless activation process – I was upgrading from my CrackBerry (which I still have in the bottom of a drawer somewhere, make me an … Continue Reading

WordPress on iPhone!

I just installed the WordPress app on my iPhone. Now I can blog from anywhere! The app also integrates with the iPhone’s photo album to upload photos. Too bad it doesn’t use the geoservices to locate the blog entry.

“Is the Mobile Web Dead?” – enough already!

I’ve noticed more and more doom & gloom blog posts and other writings about the death of the Mobile Web and/or mobile applications. Enough Already! Here is my take on what is going on and why mobile has taken so long to flourish.

1) Mobile device manufacturers are keeping tight controls on application development on their platforms

With the exception of Apple’s iPhone and the future possibility of Google’s Android, developers have to jump through hoops and pay for the privilege of developing on the platform. Talk about stifling innovation! These same mobile device manufacturers have not put … Continue Reading
