I just got in from a super ride with my friend Chris. We rode in Mine Falls in Nashua, NH – just at the end of Chris’ road. The air was a cool 66o and dry when we started. The sun goes down fast this time of year so we rode with our headlights. The reds and yellows and browns of the leaves covering the trail was really spectacular. As we rode a single track over yellow leaves, we would turn a corner and suddenly the trail was carpeted with crimson leaves. Amazing!

Riding at night with lights is both fun and terrifying. The lights help you focus on the trail ahead – usually. But sometimes, the contrast from the shadows they cast makes small obstacles look BIG.

After the ride, we frequented our favorite Mexican place for beer (me) and burritos.

My lights (one borrowed, one small backpacking headlamp) were totally useless. I ordered a Jet Lite Phantom based on my fiend Chris’ recommendation. I could not believe how much light that things puts out! Can’t wait to get mine.

Several weeks ago I reported on Mt Biking at Great Brook Farm (with the photo of Tom on his back in the mud – I still chuckle at that). Chris and his friend Chuck and I returned last night for some more exploration. We decided to try the Blueberry Hill trail on the west side of the park. I remembered it as being a nice, long not too technical uphill with a great descent. We then headed over to the Tophet Loop trail to ride the Esker again. No one fell off the bridges this time!

Went Mt Biking with my friends Chris and Tom yesterday. It was more a fun ride. On the way back, Chris and Tom both got a nasty scrape; Chris from a tree that tried to lance him and Tom attempting a steep descent covered with scree. The scree won. Oh, and Chris also hit a hidden stump off trail and took a tumble. As for me, I just had a few small “fall over sideways from a complete stop” in to soft sand & gravel.
