Description

This may turn out to be one of my favorite shots of the season! Take a careful look at the green player’s foot – it is completely wrapped around our player’s body and he is trying to kick the ball. Our player actually got the touch off his knee and managed to place it nicely for a teammate to make a run at goal. Amazing!

This first pick was from one of those cloudy day shoots. I rarely see a keeper turn his back on an opposing player. Of course, this mistake resulted in a goal for our team. As for the shooting conditions, I have my D60 set up with User Mode 1 and forgot to change the aperture to f/2.8 – duh.

Description

The final entanglement shot from this weekend! This was one of the most difficult fields to shoot on – there was no “walkaround” grassy area, spectators had to stand on a hill about 10′ above the field or behind a fence with teams warming up between them and the action. The sun (when it did peak out) was in my face, but most of the time the cloud cover kept the lighting flat and dim.

Description

This was a tough game to photograph because of the lighting. But, when the sun peeked out, there were a few moments to capture plays like this! I normally bump the ISO way up (800-1600) on dark cloudy days in order to keep the shutter speed above 1/800th, but the light was changing so fast that I got caught at ISO 400 and 1/640th shutter. It was fast enough to stop the action though.

This was an incredible save by our keeper. He had already deflected the ball going down and was able to get his foot up to prevent a goal. The defender was able to clear the ball. The lighting at this game was really, really difficult late afternoon with a field that was splotched with shadows and harsh light.
